Forage Seed Yield Response to N & P Fertilizer
No studies have been conducted to determine forage seed yield response to N and P fertilizers as affected by the availability of these elements in northeastern Saskatchewan soils. Experiments on the production of forage seed crops have been conducted in southern Saskatchewan at Swift Current (Buglass 1964; Lawrence and Kilcher 1964), central Saskatchewan under irrigation (Crowle 1966), northern Alberta (Fairey 1993) and Manitoba (Entz et al 1994).
However, in these studies, response of grasses to N and P fertilizer was not related to available N and P in the soil. Because there are many forage species, a large number of experiments would be required to test, in detail, fertilizer effects on each crop.
