True armyworm monitoring and pest management – Scout now

As of June 24, 2024, true armyworm moth counts are of concern in forage seed fields in NE-SK. Last year, starting about Jully 12th, seed production in meadow fescue, timothy and slender wheatgrass was reduced due to feeding by the larvae. Resources are collected to help producers scout their fields for larvae and determine if controls are necessary.

In the spring of 2024, the SFSDC acquired seven true armyworm, Mythimna unipuncta pheromone-baited traps to monitor for the presence of the True Armyworm in northeastern Saskatchewan. The fields were selected based on prior years’  evidence of the presence of this insect (adult moths, larvae, crop damage). As of June 24th, the adult moth counts are of concern. Resources have been gathered to inform forage seed grower's decisions for management.
