On-Farm Experiences - Forage Seed Production Information Sessions & Field Tours 2022

July 26 & 27 forage seed production field tours and research information sessions

This summer, we showcased local growers’ fields, highlighting innovations in seed placement and establishment using alternate-row or same-row planting (intercropping) of forage seed crops with a companion crop. Growers heard from the Sask Association of Watersheds about best N management practices (information about grower financial support). Guest speakers presented information about the use of forage seed grasses as a clubroot management strategy, diseases in forage seed crops (silver top, root rot) and insects and diseases in forage seed grasses and clovers grown in Whitefox-Garrick and Carrot River-Battle Heights and Smoky Burn areas.

Facility tours of the seed processing plants were hosted by DLF (Nipawin) and Nutrien (Carrot River).

Guest speaker presentations from Sask Watersheds Association, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canola Council Canada, Sask Ministry of Agriculture, and the University of Saskatchewan.

Complimentary lunches and barbeques were provided by Brett Young Seeds and Nutrien.

Thank you to all the growers who provided access to their fields and joined us for the tours, industry forage seed agronomists for event communications, and sponsorship of water, coffee and meals.

NEW: Join us at our December 12, 2022, Forage Seed Production Forum in Nipawin and hear firsthand from our growers about how the crops showcased during the tour performed. Registration on saskcrops.com
